(Espresso) Shot Heard 'Round the World - Last week, Terroir hosted 2 baristas from Club 1979 in Denmark. Soren and Peter spent the last week training with George Howell on the finer points of roasting, pulling some fine espresso shots for our staff, and sightseeing around Boston.

Terroir in the News - This month's Barista Magazine features Troels Poulsen, winner of the 2005 World Barista Championship; Troels talks about what makes him World Champion and why he chose Terroir's North Italian Style Espresso to knock out competitors from 33 other countries around the world. George Howell (our CEO and Chief Cupper) was also featured in two different articles in the Coffee Almanac (an annual publication of Fresh Cup Magazine). You can read more about these stories on our website, http://info.terroircoffee.com/press/.

The Staff Recommends...

Like most of you, the staff at Terroir likes to indulge in iced coffee during the warm summer months. So, we put our coffees to the test and the staff picked some favorite Terroir coffees to recommend iced. While we believe all Terroir coffees are great iced, some stand out as iced coffee favorites. We found that both our Brazilian Daterra Farm Special Reserve, and our Rwandan Karaba Cooperative keep their rich smooth taste when iced. The pecan notes of the Daterra Farm give the coffee a nice full body and nutty flavor. Our coffee from the Karaba Cooperative in Rwanda has a rich pecan and berries taste that remains full, but its unique floral aroma give it a nice light taste in iced coffee. If you like a lighter bodied, more tea-like iced coffee, the acidity and floral notes of our fresh crop of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe provide a light refreshing alternative.

Coffee Tip - How to make great iced coffee

Iced coffee is best when brewed fresh daily. Make your regular morning pot of coffee. Immediately after you finish brewing, put the pot in the fridge (or transfer it to another container if you prefer) . Once the coffee has chilled to room temperature, serve over ice.

If you can't wait for it to chill to room temperature, you might try shaking the coffee with ice or you can keep a supply of coffee ice cubes on hand. Coffee ice cubes are an easy way to chill your coffee without diluting the flavor. Try a few different ways and see what method you like the best. If you want to share your iced coffee ideas and even win a prize, submit your ideas, big or small, to Terroir's iced coffee contest to james@terroircoffee.com.
