What is the difference between Terroir Coffee and GHH Select
coffee?
Value and selection:
GHH Select aims to give
our customers carefully selected top quality coffee, in the tradition of The Coffee Connection, at
very affordable prices. Many of our offerings were created for the
Boston area’s top cafes and restaurants. GHH Select offers a wide selection of fine coffees: blends,
light to dark roasts and fine single origins from around the world.
Terroir Coffee’s mission
is to offer pinnacles of coffee quality. Thus Terroir Coffee only sells single origin estate coffee; it is sold
in the tradition of fine wine: name of producer, variety of bean, region and
country. Great coffee is never a blend of origins - but may be a blend of
varietals – just as with fine wines; it comes from a single source
– a single terroir.
True crafts men and women farmers deserve recognition and the remuneration
that comes with it. Terroir Coffee is about and for these coffee farmers.
Freshness:
GHH Select roasts daily
in small batches to guarantee you roast freshness. They are packaged in
air-tight one-way
valve bags to preserve freshness of roast. Our green coffees are kept in
humidity-controlled environments to reduce aging to the maximum. Top quality
coffees are harvested once a year only!
Terroir Coffee is revolutionizing the
way green coffee is packaged and stored to guarantee absolute consistency
of product throughout the year, as pointed out in Wine Spectator
in 2006. As green coffee ages during the storage year dramatic, negative
flavor changes take place! Only Terroir Coffee has addressed this issue head
on and stopped green coffee aging in its tracks through its special packaging
and storage policy. Daily roasting and posting the roast date, not the “use by”
date is standard, of course.
Roast:
GHH Select offers the
full gamut of roasts from our famous light roasts, Full Flavor, to French
Roasts.
Terroir Coffee emphasizesroasting with a light touch. The darker
the roast, the thicker the sauce, so to say, and this apparent “richness”
obscures the intrinsic aromatic favor characteristics of great single origin
coffees. Clarity is critical. There are exceptions, of course. The roast
range of our espressos goes from light to dark (check out our Daterra
Calabria Style espresso). Also, each origin coffee has its own unique
roast profile and ideal roast degree. In time, as Terroir Coffee’s selection
expands, our range of roast offerings will expand as well. Think of us as an
embryonic wine store. Years from now a fully grown-up Terroir Coffee will
offer many estates from each coffee producing region. Our Kenya selection
is an incipient illustration of this; we offer four selections, including a
slightly darker roast.
